Well that was boring. I just cleared my history & cache this morning, so it’s not too much fun. Oh well. I wanted to post something, and didn’t have time for anything with any decent content.
How’d you like that clever play on words? Yeah. I’m sorry.
Once in a great while, an album comes along that I cannot stop listening to. It’s happened with Thrice, Copeland, Matchbook Romance, Further Seems Forever, Underoath, The Rocket Summer, and more. What usually happens is I will get the CD. Listen once. Think “eh, that’s a good CD!“, and then proceed to listen to it about 60 times non-stop for anywhere from a day or two up to a month thereafter. It’s happening again.
Mae.
The Everglow.
Wanna listen? You are, if you have Flash installed. They provide a ton of promotion tools on theeverglow.com, like the flash thing up top.
Hello, and welcome to The Everglow by Mae. You are now listening to the audio portion of the album. To complete your experience, please open the booklet that accompanies the compact disc. Good, you are now ready to experience The Everglow. You’ll know it’s time to turn the page when you hear this sound:
[different sounds from the album at once]
Thank you, and enjoy your journey.
The album is put together like a childrens audio book. The previous text is the first track, and the ‘different sounds from the album at once‘ is a compilation of the first second or two of each song. The liner notes are made to look like a childrens book, with illustrations to go along with every song. The last track thanks you for listening, and expresses its hope that you enjoyed your journey.
I like this album a bit more than the last Mae album. I think because its a bit heavier. The vocals are more ‘grown up’ too, I think. He’s not trying to sing as high; he’s using a deeper voice in some places, which I am really digging. Give it a chance. Go buy it quick if you want the special limited edition, they aren’t printing any more CDs with the extra sleeve and the gold printing on the cover.
A few weeks ago David Gallagher from lightningfield.com asked for participants to help with his 3rd annual Fiona Project. I got to participate this year and be the first ‘A’ in “Happy Birthday Fiona”. Unfortunately, the project deadline hit right during my busiest week of the year so far (see previous entry), and I procrastinated and wasn’t completely happy with my entry. I could’ve done better — if I participate next year, I promise (to myself, David, and Fiona) to do better. Go check out this year’s project here. I’m honored to have been able to participate in something with some really great photographers who I greatly admire. Go check it out, and follow the links to the photographers sites — they do some amazing work.
Where have I been?
Jackie and I drove down to West Lafayette, Indiana to the FIRST Robotics Boilermaker regional. We watched some robots. I got to see a bunch of my awesome robotics friends. The cover band I’m in played a 2-set show for a bunch of people. I got pulled over for going 56 in a 40 (oops.), but only got a written warning — what a nice sheriff. Then we drove home.
After a few days of work and resting, my dad and I drove over to Chicago for the Midwest regional, at the University of Chicago - Illionis. We watched some robots and got to hang out with a bunch of robotics friends. DSK played at the UIC Pavilion (a hockey arena) on their huge PA system. It was loud. It was awesome. We played our best show ever, I think (except for those first two songs .. both guitarists forgot how to play them, and its noticable to us at least). We have mp3’s and some video, and they’re going up slowly on our website. It was so much fun planning, practicing, and playing. The other guys in the band are amazing people, and awesome musicians. It was great.
And now — I’m taking a break from things, trying to stay happy (and it’s pretty easy these days, luckily), and just living life. The local bands are trying to get things going again, and that’s exciting. I really want to start playing more shows. It’s fun.
I’ve got tons of new music to share (not share, share — but to tell you about) and those posts will come in the next few days. Oh, it’s so good. I promise.
